В первый понедельник апреля 1625 г. население городка Менг в предместье Парижа казалось взволнованным так, словно гугеноты вздумали превратить его во вторую крепость Ларошель: в Менг въехал молодой человек восемнадцати лет на рыжем мерине без хвоста. Его облик, одежда и манеры вызвали в толпе горожан шквал насмешек. Всадник, впрочем, не обращает на них внимания, как и подобает дворянину, почитающему зазорным выяснять отношения с простолюдинами. Другое дело — оскорбление, нанесённое равным: #д’Артаньян (так зовут нашего героя) бросается с оголённой шпагой на знатного господина в чёрном; однако тому на помощь прибегают несколько горожан с дубьём. Очнувшись, д’Артаньян не обнаруживает ни обидчика, ни — что гораздо серьёзнее — рекомендательного письма отца к старому боевому товарищу, капитану королевских мушкетёров г-ну де Тревилю, с просьбой определить достигшего совершеннолетия отпрыска на военную службу.

Jessica Gimeno lives with bipolar disorder and wants to expand the discourse around mental health. Its not enough to just receive a diagnosis, she says, people have to learn to live with depression and other mental health issues. In her talk, she shares the techniques shes learned to help her get stuff done while depressed.

Jessica is a warrior who fights five illnesses daily: bipolar II, polycystic ovarian syndrome, asthma, psoriasis, and the neuromuscular autoimmune disease Myasthenia Gravis (MG). Jessica Gimeno was valedictorian of her class, winning more than 20 speech competitions. Motivated by a friend’s suicide, she spoke to hundreds of students about mental health stigma and helped thirty students get psychiatric help. In her free time, Jessica is a diehard New Kids on the Block fan who enjoys pilates, painting, and playing with her nieces and nephews.

Russ Altman uses computer technology to explore how our genes affect the ways our bodies respond to drugs.

A Stanford professor of bioengineering, genetics and medicine, Altman leads Simbios, an NIH Center for Biomedical Computation, and holds a BA from Harvard College, an MD from Stanford Medical School and a PhD in medical information sciences from Stanford. Altman received the U.S. Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, a National Science Foundation CAREER Award and Stanford Medical Schools graduate teaching award. He chairs the Science Board advising the Food and Drug Administration and is a founder of Personalis Inc.

Roopa brings together three other loves — history, young people, and her hometown Bangalore — in her job as tour guide with the heritage walks and tours company BangaloreWalks.
